The Statewide Campus System is delighted to report the following winners of monetary awards from the Ninth Annual SCS Scholarly Activity Poster Day that was held virtually on May 18, 2022. The SCS accepted a total of 30 poster abstracts and each final poster was evaluated by two expert judges.

- First Prize: Mr. Hunter Holsinger, OMS III, “Role of Abdominal Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Pregnant Women Presenting with Acute Abdominal Pain” ($750 award)
- Second Prize: Ms. Erika Malana, MA, OMS, “A randomized controlled trial investigating the pediatric patient experience of subantimicrobial dose doxycycline for acne treatment” ($500 award)

- First Prize: Dr. Stephanie Behme, DPM, McLaren Oakland, “Impact of Podiatric Surgery Consultation for Foot And Ankle Wounds on Patient Outcomes in A Community Hospital” ($1,500 award)
- Second Prize: Dr. Haley Lehman, DO, Henry Ford, “Feasibility of an Opioid Sparing Discharge Protocol Following Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery” ($1,000 award)
- Third Prize: Dr. William Kady, DO, Ascension Providence, “Impact of superior semicircular canal dehiscence on cochlear implant audiologic outcomes” ($750 award)

Spartan Medical Research Journal Volume 7, Issue 1 Highlight
In this retrospective study, Scholarly Activity grant recipient Emergency Medicine residents and faculty affiliated with the MSUCOM Statewide Campus System examined mortality and 30-day readmissions between African American and non-African American patients for chest pain management in our May featured article entitled: Racial Variations in Emergency Department Management of Chest Pain in a Community-based Setting.
