Lifestyle Medicine Foundations Curriculum
Lifestyle Medicine is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic intervention—including a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connection—as a primary modality, delivered by clinicians trained and certified in this specialty, to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease. It is one of the fastest-growing specialty career fields in medicine and holds the promise of real value-based care and true health reform as it addresses the root cause of most chronic illnesses. Rescheduled: Palpatory Assessment with Clinical Correlations for Healthcare Providers 2023 (formerly - OPP for the MD Part 2: Practical Application of Outpatient OMM for the DO) on April 28 & 29, 2023
This two-day workshop will provide a practical application of osteopathic structural examination and the use of osteopathic manipulative treatment in a variety of common clinical scenarios. We will start with a review of Part 1, including the history and philosophy of Osteopathic Medicine, the physical examination skill of palpation, and the modalities of soft tissue technique, myofascial release, and lymphatic technique. We will also review the osteopathic screening evaluation of patients in the hospital and outpatient environments.
The program will then shift to clinical applications covering common issues encountered in the care of patients, including headaches, pulmonary disease, gastrointestinal problems, and common musculoskeletal concerns related to the extremities. Participants will understand the rationale for using OMM and OMT, gain skills in the use of OMT in these scenarios, and build the knowledge and acumen needed for teaching and supervising residents performing these techniques.
We look forward to continuing this experience with you!
