Abstract Submission Now Open!
The RISE (Research, Innovation, and Scholarly Engagement) and SCS (Statewide Campus System) Research Day Planning Committee invites MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine medical students, graduate students, post-docs, and SCS-affiliated residents and fellows from member institutions to submit abstracts for the 3rd Annual MSUCOM Research Day.
Submission Revised Deadline: Monday February 17, 2025 @5:00 pm
All first authors will be notified of their abstract acceptance status by March 5, 2025. Accepted abstracts will be invited for poster or oral presentations, and research presentations are eligible for the following Research Awards. Case Reports are not eligible for Research Awards.

Instructions for Authors
- Abstract revised submission deadline is Monday February 17, 2025, at 5:00 pm; no revisions or submissions will be accepted after the deadline.
- Before submission, the first author must ensure that all co-authors are aware of the abstract's content and the Faculty Mentor/Principal Investigator (PI) has approved the abstract.
- The submitting author must be the first author. First authors are allowed to submit one abstract, however, can be listed as a co-author on additional abstracts.
- Abstracts submitted should incorporate unpublished data.
- IRB and IACUC determinations are required for projects involving human subjects or animal research, respectively; abstracts will not be considered without appropriate regulatory approval.
- Patient consent is required for case reports/series through direct written, witnessed verbal, or institutional consent processes; abstracts will not be considered without appropriate patient consent.
- After submission, the first author will receive an automated confirmation e-mail that contains a link to the submitted abstract. Abstract revisions can be made before the submission deadline
- All first authors will be notified of abstract selection by February 14, 2024, and authors of accepted abstracts will receive information for preparing their poster or oral presentation.
- With permission from the first author and Faculty Mentor/PI abstracts accepted for poster or oral presentations are eligible to have the title, authors’ names, and affiliations featured on our Research Day website as well as the full abstract published within a Special Issue of the peer-reviewed, PubMed-indexed Spartan Medical Research Journal (SMRJ) following Research Day. Please be prepared to consent or decline these opportunities within the submission form.
Abstract Format
- Abstract Categories: Basic Science, Clinical Research, Medical Education, Quality Improvement, Case Report/Series
- Abstract text: 350 words maximum, excluding Title, Authors, and Affiliations. References are not required as their inclusion affects word count.

The MSUCOM Research Day planning committee will complete a blinded review of all submitted abstracts. All first authors will be notified of abstract selection, with accepted abstracts assigned to either an oral presentation or a poster presentation.
Judges Information
Thank you to all volunteers serving as a judge on May 13, 2025, for the 3rd Annual MSUCOM (Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine) Research Day. Your ability to score the scholarly work and provide all trainees with useful and constructive feedback as judges will be crucial to the success of this event. A panel of two to four judges will be assigned to score each poster or oral presentation, and mean scores across all judges will be used to determine winners and award presentation prizes.
If you are interested in being a judge, please fill out the Judges Information Form before the deadline of February 17, 2025.Residents/Post-docs are ineligible to serve as judges.
